Vale Recreation got 2011 off to a perfect start with a 4-1
win at St Andrews this afternoon.

An entertaining FA Cup encounter at St Andrews was finally
settled by two second-half strikes from Jason Sarahs and
substitute, Martyn Moullin, to put the game out of reach
of the battling home side.

This all after a first-half which saw Glenn Le Tissier fire the Rec
into an early two goal lead before St Andrews halved the deficit
with a fine goal that caught out a static Vale defence.

Coach, Carl Le Tissier was able to welcome back skipper, Ross Ellliott and also handed new signing Miles Pengelley a debut at left-back.

Marc Rihoy again stood in as back-up keeper with Jody Bisson still recovering from an injury sustained in the game against North.

Vale enjoyed the better of the play in the opening minutes with Glenn Le Tissier in the thick of the action, grabbing two goals in the opening 20 minutes.

His first came with a fine piece of finishing from a Dave Hooper cross and it was Hooper who again provided the cross for Le Tissier to roll in his second after both Elliott and Pengelley could have scored.

Vale wasted a glut of chances and the home side made them pay when Paul Machon lifted the ball over a stranded Rihoy with his defenders static.

Vale came out blazing after the interval scoring two further goals either side of the hour mark.

Gareth Holden floated in a free-kick from the touchline and big defender Jason Sarahs powered the ball in with a downward header.

Six minutes later it was 4-1 and game over when sub Moullin side-footed in with his first touch after coming on for Bisson.

Vale Rec will now face Veterans side Government Utd in the next round of the competition, the game being switched to the Corbet Field for an evening kick-off.
