A battling Rangers reduced the deficit on 54 minutes and equalised on 76 mins after being awarded a penalty for handball. This appeared to rattle the home side and Rangers had a couple of chances to take the lead with one shot coming back off the bar. But it was Saints who came out of the traps at the start of the second period hitting a further three goals in the opening five minutes to knock the wind out of Rec. Things got worse for Vale when referee Steve Raines somewhat harshly sent off midfielder Jack Byrne for a challenge in which a yellow card would have sufficed. With Saints continuing to look dangerous on the attack and stroking the ball around the pitch with ease, things looked ominous for the yellows but to their credit, they continued to battle and finally pulled a goal back through Miles Pengelley. This was to be only a consolation though and the win moved Saints back to the top of the FNB Priaulx League. 22.10.2011 Vale Recreation 1-1 Rovers Vale Recreation and Rovers battled out a 1-1 draw at the Corbet Field this afternoon.
